Palermo Airport Terminal map

Palermo Airport was first opened in 1953 when the “Autonomous Consortium for Palermo Airport” was constituted. This consortium had the aim to create a new brand commercial airport from the ex-military airport of Bocca di Falco.

It was agreed to build the airport at Punta Raisi in Cinisi, regarding the windy nature of the location due to the surrounding mountains, and further matters which created controversy among the society which made the process of approval last for almost two years. Finally, the airport was opened in 1960.

Given the strong winds blowing from the south, another runway had to be built.

Palermo Airport has a single passenger terminal, which hosts both arrivals and departures.
